Web AccessibilityWhat do we mean by web accessibility? The WLT interprets web accessibility to mean the ease with which web users can find the information they require on a website. What are our aims?We believe that anybody should be able to access the information our websites contains, regardless of the technology they are using to do so. We also aim to make our websites easy to use in general, so that users with different levels of web experience and whose first language is not English are still able to make use of our sites. To this end, we are aiming to achieve a minimum of the WCAG level AA standard across all of our sites, along with other changes to improve usability of the websites. To learn more about the WCAG standard, visit http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10/ What are we going to do, and how soon?As a conservation charity, the World Land Trust's main aim is to purchase and protect threatened wildlife habitats, and we have limited resources to use for website improvements. Making all of our pages meet level AA accessibility standards will therefore take a while to complete. All new content will conform to the standards where possible and old content will be made accessible over time, where necessary. All pages with content that may currently not be completely accessible will have other alternatives whenever possible, such as printable versions or a telephone service. Using the accessibility tools on your browserThere are some basic functions built in to most browsers to allow you to control the presentation of websites. Below are instructions for changing the text size and colours in Internet Explorer, and for switching on JavaScript, which is needed to donate to or order from the World Land Trust online. We use JavaScript to help check that the information we need to process a donation or order has been completed correctly, and to alert you, the user, to options available on the website. For further information and instructions for other browsers, please use the help menu found at the top of your browser window. Changing the text sizeTo change the text size in Internet Explorer, click on View, then Text Size, and then select the size you want. Switching off colours, text size and font stylesYou can switch off the colours, font (text) size and font styles specified on a website by clicking on Tools, and then Internet Options. Click the Accessibility button, and then check the boxes as required. You can also specify your own colour and font preferences using the Internet Options dialogue box, by clicking on the Colours. and Fonts. buttons. Can't access something? Let us knowIf you are unable to use any aspect of our site, we would be grateful if you would contact us to report the problems you are encountering, so that we can mkae improvements. The contacts page has details of how to get in touch with us. Please tell us which page you were trying to view when the problem occurred. |
